About Us

The owners of Castillito del Caribe are Dawn Fleming and Tom Clifford. Dawn is originally from Minnesota, but lived in Orange, California for 20 years. She met Tom in 2000, who is from Newport Beach, CA. Tom & Dawn were married in 2003 in Cane Garden Bay, British Virgin Islands while chartering a 35′ sailboat for 16 days. Tom is a retired electrical engineer. Dawn is a former business attorney, and a distributor for a worldwide direct sales biotech company based in Orlando, FL.

In 2010, Dawn and Tom sailed Santorini, a 50’ center cockpit ketch from SoCal, 5000 miles though the Panama Canal and relocated to Florida. For more about that amazing journey, visit www.sailblogs.com/members/santorini. They lived in Florida for 6 years, until June, 2017 when they sold their cars, most of their furniture and other belongings and moved to Isla Mujeres to live full time. If they aren’t out cruising, Santorini is moored at a marina in the IM lagoon, where Dawn & Tom live when Castillito is rented.

Dawn first came to IM in 1994, when her best friend Laurie introduced her to the Caribbean Paradise. Tom fell in love on his first visit in 2002. We’ve returned regularly ever since. It was very emotional to sail into the harbor in February 2011, near the end of the trip from California. Dreams do come True! Having been burned badly in the real estate crash of 2008, purchasing property in the United States again was a scary thought. Buying an income producing property just made sense and Isla Mujeres was a natural choice.  A Tropical Island paradise with Home Depot, Costco, Sam’s Club, etc. just a short ferry ride away, Isla Mujeres is truly an international tourist destination.  Just listen, and you’ll hear a multitude of languages being spoken.  The local economy is booming and not dependent on a strength of a particular country’s economy.

In Real Estate it’s all about Location, Location, Location – this house can’t be beat. Right in the Heart of Downtown – you can walk to everything – but come back to a secluded and private retreat too.

You’ll just LOVE IT here!

Tom’s a surfer – of course! He named the break in front of the house “Castles” see if you can find it. Please Like our FB Page and check out some cool videos at www.facebook.com/islamujeresvacay.
